While we pursue this research, it is important not to underestimate the difficulty or complexity of the problem. There are relatively few good analogues for counter-terrorism analysis. Some of the best analogues include analyses of stock performance, organized crime, money laundering, and fraud. However, even these few analogues have failings, both because they tend not to employ data mining technologies (yet), and because they are typically much simpler problems, with cleaner data and lower consequences associated with false negatives.
