IMPORTANT!!  The contents of the 1994/95 Government Manual are determined 
by the U.S. Government, not by the University of Michigan Documents Center.
The information in these files goes out of date as agency and personnel 
changes are made.  If the Government issues updated files, the University 
of Michigan posts these updated files.  If no updates are issued, the files 
posted remain unchanged.  The University of Michigan Documents Center 
DOES NOT make independent updates of these files.

This internet version of the Government Manual 1994/95 was downloaded from 
the Federal Bulletin Board by the University of Michigan Documents Center 
in the University Library.  The organization of it closely follows that 
of the print version; however there are several characteristics of the 
internet version that users should be aware of:

1.  Graphics or illustrations such as organizational charts are not
contained in these files.

2.  Table formatting in files such as the Judicial Branch has not
translated well into ASCII.  Therefore, directories of names, titles and
numbers are often difficult to decipher.

3.  Information for agencies and other entities is often lumped into one
large file, making it difficult to quickly locate specific information.
Using the "Search U.S. Government Manual" WAIS index option helps, but the
string search option is sometimes still necessary to narrow your search
further.  To execute a string search after accessing a text file, enter a
slash (/) followed by the name or word EXACTLY as it might appear in the
text.  For example, "/smithsonian" results in "Pattern not found;" but
"/Smithsonian" takes you to the first instance of that pattern in the
file.  You can also use an asterisk (*) to truncate a term or name, as in
"/Smithson*".
