Senate; Minneapolis & Minn. online [As you can tell from the datelines, this is *embarassingly* old - but still useful - information. --blushing jim, the anemic volunteer] FINGER THE CALIFORNIA SENATE >From lpress@dhvx20.csudh.edu Fri Mar 4 18:56:53 1994 X-Listname: lanet@dhvx20.csudh.edu From: "Arthur R. McGee" What's nice about this is that even if they don't have an email address, you still get regular postal mail, phone and committee info: [sen.ca.gov] This is the white pages server for the California State Senate. This finger server can help you find the electronic mail addresses of members of the California state senate and their staffs. If you know the last or first name of someone, try using that in a finger command. For example, to see if Linda Ronstadt has an email address on this server, finger linda@sen.ca.gov. If you don't know who your senator is, you can finger your zip code and we'll try to help you find him or her. To finger your zip code, use it as part of your finger command, such as finger 90210@sen.ca.gov. For EMAIL-only users, this finger server will also respond to electronic mail requests sent to zipcode@sen.ca.gov. To use this server via electronic mail, include your "finger" argument as the subject of an email message. For example, to find out if Linda Ronstadt has a listed email address, send mail to "finger@sen.ca.gov" with a subject of "linda" (or "ronstadt"). If you have questions about this service, send email to the hostmaster (hostmaster@sen.ca.gov). 940116/jms [Note from Art: Here is an example of the output using my zip code] [sen.ca.gov] Zip code 90501 is entirely in Los Angeles county. This zip code is entirely in Senate District 28. Here is information on each of those districts. It will be used to distribute information on current Minnesota efforts in the area of electronic access to government information and services. It will contain releases on the "Access Minnesota" initiative and updates on actions during the legislative session. It is likely that there will be a flurry of activity in this area over the next few weeks. This list will cover legislative actions and inform you of hearings when possible. Those who are interested in closely following this legislation are encouraged to contact the legislature. House Information can be reached at (612)296-2146 or (800)657-3550 or Senate Information at (612)296-0504. This broadcast list was launched on March 17, 1994 and there have been close to 200 subscribers in its first week. This is a low volume list with perhaps 2 or 3 messages a week during the legislative session. Please forward this description to others who may be interested in this initiative via e-mail, fax, or print form. While electornic communication allows us to increase the number of people who receive information rather rapidly, we need to ensure that those individuals and organizations that are interested and do not have e-mail, gain access to this information. To subscribe send an e-mail message to: LISTSERV@VM1.SPCS.UMN.EDU or LISTSERV@UMINN1.BITNET Leave the subject line blank. In the TEXT portion write: SUBSCRIBE MN-GOVT Your Name Example: subscribe mn-govt Axel Johnson You will then receive a note verifying your subscription.
