 It's worth comparing how Marty talks about MacKinnon in other contexts.
 
 In an April 19, 1995, letter to Carlin Meyer, Marty writes:
 
 "I am glad you encouraged me to make one more effort with MacKinnon -- it
 seems to have worked. Now I think they'll have a really well-balanced issue,
 and based on your aticle in the Texas review that I read, I am confident
 that yours is first rate; I am eager to read it.....
 
 "If we -- and by 'we' I mean you, Anne, and Catharine, as well as our study
 -- stimulate constructive debate, then I think we succeeded in producing
 something really special."
