Date: 17 Aug 1995 17:20:29 GMT Organization: Center for Machine Translation, Carnegie Mellon University I guess the university wasn't satisfied with the banned bboards and the Rimm fiasco. It turns out one of the infamous Green Card lawyers is an alum, and there's an entirely friendly interview with her, including her complaining about the jerks who sent her hate mail. "because they don't want the Internet used for commercial purposes". They could have at least run an opposing viewpoint, or argued with her a bit. Maybe SCS could secede from CMU and become a branch of Berkeley. ----- From: ref@CS.CMU.EDU (Robert Frederking) Newsgroups: cmu.cs.discussion Subject: Predict CMU's next gaff Date: 18 Aug 1995 16:39:09 GMT Organization: Center for Machine Translation, Carnegie Mellon University Since the university seems to have a policy of embracing the most heinous people and policy positions it can find regarding the Internet, I thought it might be interesting for people to guess what the next major embarassment will be. I can't think of any; they've used up all the possibilities I know of. They are proactive regarding censorship, they fully embraced the Rimm "CMU study" of pornography, and now have feature interviews with our favorite alumna, the spamming Green Card lawyer. What's next? Maybe the death penalty for people who post comments critical of their place of employment? Oh, wait, I have it: they will officially become a branch of the Church of Scientology(tm). Every freshman will be required to purchase an e-meter. ----- From: spok+@cs.cmu.edu (John Ockerbloom) Newsgroups: cmu.cs.discussion Subject: Re: Predict CMU's next gaff Date: 18 Aug 1995 19:35:35 GMT Organization: School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon Top 10 next steps CMU plans to reinforce its net/computer-savvy image: 10.
