EFF DVD Update: July 13, 2000
Universal City Studios v. 2600 Magazine
DMCA to go on Trial Monday in NY
Judge Lewis Kaplan issued an order on July 12 to consolidate pending motions with the upcoming trial on the merits, scheduled to begin July 17 in Manhattan. The movie studios' had filed a motion to expand their gag order to also bar 2600 from linking to DeCSS. EFF's defense team filed a counter motion to vacate the ban against the Web publisher from posting the computer code. Both motions have been combined with the landmark trial that will test the Constitutional boundaries of the controversial DMCA.
EFF will sponsor a press briefing Friday in NY on this trial.
