MPAA Ducks Deposition Questions in DVD Case

EFF's DVD Legal Team and attorneys for the MPAA were back in Judge Kaplan's courtroom on Thursday, June 8, over the studios' refusal to cooperate in depositions.  MPAA claims all information about DeCSS and piracy is privileged by the attorney-client relationship and flatly refuses to answer questions on the subject matter of the litigation.  EFF's attorneys for Defendant 2600 Magazine contend MPAA is evading discovery and have asked the court to compel the studio's cooperation.

MPAA's brief on the scope of its right to claim attorney-client work product privilege is due June 13 and EFF's opposition to the claim will be due June 19.   A hearing on the matter will be scheduled shortly after MPAA files its responsive pleading on the 21st.
