Please keep in mind the following only applies to the use of the computers in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at UNSW and other departments have their own goals/rules/ideals. > Here is some revelent excerpts from a document all computer students should sign and hand to their tutor or the School Office... its been around since at least 91.. perhaps earlier. ---------------- Important Advice for Students.. [...] 1. Resposible Use of Laboratories The workstation and PC laboratories are well-equipeed and usually comfortable areas in which to work.... [...].. Be advised that the following are prohibited: * Smoking, eating or drinking in the labs. The equipment is far too susceptible to allow exceptions. * Attempting to interfere with the equipment in any way. Vandalism, theft or wilful damage will be referred to the police. * Tampering with others' accounts in any way, including trying to thwart the system security, setting password traps, or other antisocial behaviour. * Using the facilities for commercial purposes, or for preparing racist or other offensive material. * Using the equipment for recreational purposes when workstations are in demand by legitimate users. * Using other student's accounts in order to gain access privileges or booking tokens to which one is not entitled. * Not complying with a directive by the laboratory supervisors or other staff. Users found indulging in such activities will be subject to disciplinary action. Minor breaches will result in suspension of the user's account for one week. Serious or repeated offences can result (and has resulted) in students being excluded from the University. The is not meant to imply that you can't experiment with the network facilities - experimentation is one way to learn and is perfectly all right. As long as you avoid interfering with other users, and report any problems that you uncover, you will be discharging your responsibilities rappropriately. 2. Originality of Assignment Submissions..[..etc.. stuff regarding assessment..] [..] --------------- That is it... I wonder if this differs greatly from other institutions. It seems to encourage use of network facilities as long as you do so in a responsible manner. Cheers, -- ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// // Herman H.
