It is simple, and only requires a small bit of action on your part. Whenever you see an obvious spam, forward it in its entirety with all headers to the Postmaster at the originating site with a note requesting that the offending user be disciplined, disabled, or whatever it takes to get the spamming to stop. Don't just assume that someone else has done the same thing; do it yourself! If a postmaster at a large site receives one or two complaints about a stupid user, he may ignore it, but if he gets 500 of them and has trouble finding his real staff mail among the screaming, maybe he'll pay attention. And don't take "we will cancel the article" for an answer. Spamming is a HUMAN problem, solvable at the HUMAN, not usenet, level. Remember, mail fraud like pyramid schemes and scams is only uncovered and dealt with if someone has the wherewithal to bring the material to the post office for investigation. The internet is the same way, except you don't even have to leave your seat to do it. Forward those complaints!
