[This is part of the Pennsylvania State University Code. It is from
the document '//psuinfo/Policies-Rules for Students/Policies and
Rules/Sexual Harassment Policy'. It is available via gopher
from info.psu.edu.

Some points of interest:

This definition is typical of other university definitions.

Broad application of the "hostile enviornment" standard to students
may be unconstitutional. See ftp.eff.org:pub/academic/law/doe-v-u-of-michigan
and uwm-post-v-u-of-wisconsin.]

POL15: 7. POLICY STATEMENT ON SEXUAL HARASSMENT*

     a. Sexual harassment of faculty, staff or students will not be
         tolerated at The Pennsylvania State University. The
         University takes an active role in providing information
         and/or training to students and employees on the seriousness
         of such behavior and the importance of ensuring an
         educational and work environment in which all individuals are
         respected.

     b. Sexual harassment has been defined as unwelcome sexual
         advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or
         physical conduct of a sexual nature when:

         (1) submission to such conduct is a condition for
              employment, promotion, grades or academic status;

         (2) submission to or rejection of such conduct is used as
              the basis for employment or academic decisions affecting
              an individual;
         (3) such conduct has the purpose or effect of interfering
              unreasonably with the individual's work or academic
              performance or creates an offensive, hostile, or
              intimidating working or learning environment.

     c. Any member of the University community who experiences sexual
         harassment should contact the Campus Life Assistance Center,
         the Affirmative Action Office, or the appropriate contact
         person.**
