The following document contains 10 Secrets to solving any possible computer problem. This method is guaranteed to work. Its been known for many many eons... as far back as there was ever any technology... and farther. Indeed these secrets have been traced back though the manuscripts compiled by alchemists, and were certainly known by magicians in the days of olde. Read them, be enlightened. Note that is a rather modern translation. Some of the flavor of the original may have been lost but the content is certainly still all there. 1. Make sure its plugged in (Even the most adept has missed this. Go check it anyways.) 2. Have you read the documentation? 3. Make sure you haven't changed or missed any important configuations. 4. Eliminate anything that could be interfering and causing problems. If you can, isolate where the problem is. 5. Note if there has been anything added or installed since 'it' last worked. 6. When reporting your problems to tech support, be specific. EG: I can't access my email vs I was trying to use Eudora on my powerbook, from home, over a dial up line to get my email. I'm not able to get my email to trasfer down to my machine, but I am able to send email out. I've checked the Mac TCP configuration, the Eudora configuration, the modem setup, and replaced the phone cord, but it still gives me an error message that says... 7. Record and report any error messages: EG "It said something and then just sat there" vs "The error message that Eudora gave was 'Connection came up half way and failed." 8. Give a time frame on how soon it needs to be fixed. How urgent is your problem? Note that not EVERYTHING can be an emergency, even if it seems that way. If you are unable to breath, thats an emergency. If you feel that removing the dust from your great great uncle's civil war army boots that are all the way at the OTHER side of your cluttered basement bugs me in the least, you need professional help. 9. Give a way to contact you if you aren't immediatly available. Phone numbers are always helpful. 10. Remain calm. Don't panic.
