Budget; Africa Legal Info Status: RO CALIFORNIA LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS ONLINE & SEEKING CANDIDATE QUERIES >From IRutledge@aol.com Tue Sep 6 20:43:27 1994 To: svp@smart1.svi.org I hope it's not violating netiquette to contact you with this invitation to participate in Ask the Candidates, a League of Women Voters of California project. This project is online in the League area within Mercury Center's Community Organizations Board as well as in a League area in CompuServe, but there is a way for non-subscribers to participate. Ask the Candidates consists of obtaining questions that California voters would like posed to candidates for one or more of California's statewide constitutional offices -- Gov, Lt Gov, Secy of State, Atty Gen, Treas, Controller, Insurance Commissioner, Board of Equalization, Supt of Public Instruction. From this pool of questions, three will be selected per office and submitted to candidates for that office. Candidates' responses will be available online mid-October. All of the questions posted provide a way to make the League and other on-liners aware of the issues of greatest concern to you. You can e-mail any questions you have to me to post for you. Or, if you know an AOL subscriber who can post a question for you, you can locate Ask the Candidates by open Mercury Center (If the Mercury Center icon does not appear on your opening screen, you can access it via the keyword, Mercury Center.) 1) Then select Communication. 2) Select Bay Area Living Message Boards 3) Select Community Organizations Board 4) Select List Topics 5) Select League of Women Voters 6) Select ASK THE CANDIDATES. This message thread provides an overview of the project and hints for posting. Let me know if you have any questions ... and thanks, in advance, for your interest. Irene Rutledge, LWV San Jose/Santa Clara === To which I responded === Uh, it appears that non-AOL, non-Compu$erve users -- that is, *most* of the netvolks -- will be able to submit questions, but won't be able to see the answers. I urge you, LWV, get on the *big* and often-free 9for users) Internet and stop limiting yourselves to those "small," elitist commercial services. --jim &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& CALIFORNIA'S LEGINFO DOESN'T HAVE BUDGET, BUT SENATE APPARENTLY DOES As of Sept. 6th, the [arguably] single most-signficant, surely-compuerized document under California legislative scrutiny was not available from the Legislature's public-access site, leginfo.public.ca.gov , "because of the size of this document and due to the fact that the source of our information also does not contain the budget." A paper copy of the state budget might be available through the Capitol Bill Room (916-445-2323). But, Earl Vincent (ejv@ix.netcom.com) said he contacted the Capitol Bill Room, and says they told him the state budget *is* on the Internet. It is supposedly under Senate Bill 2120. Note: The State Senate computers are directly connected to the Legislative Data Center computers - which feed info to their public leginfo system. &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& A LEGAL-INFORMATION SERVICE FOR EAST AFRICA >From kimacia@BIX.com Wed Sep 7 22:22:23 1994 I would like to set-up an online legal information service (the first of its kind in East Africa).
