Date: Tue, 10 May 1994 08:48:23 -0700 From: Jim Warren Subject: GovAccess.035: PANIC-MODE ACTION ALERT! Calif. AB 2451 Vote TOMMORROW! May 10, 1994, 8:39 a.m. MAY 11th HEARING ON INTERNET ACCESS TO STATE'S COMPUTERIZED PUBLIC RECORDS Time-stamped 7:47 a.m. this morning, I just received a fax from "Mitchell & Co." (don't know who they are) stating that California's Assembly Bill 2451 is being heard in the Assembly Ways and Means Committee TOMMORROW, May 11th! AB 2451 would require that all of the state's already-computerized *public* records be made available to the public via Internet access, without charge by the state. Ways and Means is the committee where I suspect that those bureaucrats who oppose such access will oink most vigorously about how they will need vast sums to provide such public access to the public's information. Unfortunately, this is all the info I have on the hearing. No one watching the capitol told me of this hearing until now (and I'm already late for a board meeting for which I was preparing when the fax arrived). Bad sign. IMMEDIATE brief email, faxes and phone-calls supporting AB 2451 to provide *modern* public access to the public records are needed to: bill-author Assembly Member Tom Bates (c/o aide: Rachel Richman) voice/916-445-7554; fax/916-445-6434; email/rrichman@igc.apc.org and to: The Hon. John Vasconcellos, Chair, Assembly Ways and Means Committee fax/916-323-9209 &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& TO THOSE WHO MAY HAVE SENT ME EMAIL Due to a rash of meetings in the past two weeks, I'm again backed up in my email by almost three weeks . [But, I had asked key bill-watchers to call me when hearings on several bills were impending, so I could get details and broadcast timely action-alerts. Oh well.] Hope to catch up by the end of this week. &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& "Whenever you have an efficient government, you have a dictatorship." --Harry S.
